  • Think about a collaboration experience of multi- discipline working – what do you think were the successful and unsuccessful in regards to the outcome?
  • Evaluate how poor collaboration can result in mismanagement of human and financial resources, providing literature support.
  • Provide literature support for interdisciplinary leadership strategies that would allow the team to achieve its goals.
  • Provide interdisciplinary collaboration strategies that would help the team focus on the goals more and work together more efficiently.

First let me Provide Some Background

Let me tell you about my daily collaboration as NURS fpx4010 Assessment 1 Collaboration and Leadership from an interdisciplinary lens. I now practice in an ambulatory surgery center. This was when I was working as a new graduate nurse. For this story, I Perioperative describes care for at least three stages – preoperative, intra-operative, and post-operative. In my position here, which is decided by the nurse manager, my duty of the today will stem from which role the nurse manager gives me. Preoperative assessment and patient consent are prerequisites before entry into the operative room as the patient enters the room. It was a patient scheduled for lumbar epidural with moderate sedation. One of the crucial responsibilities is to make sure this patient did not eat for at least eight hours and did not have any gum, candy, or loose teeth in his mouth.

The patient did select “No” and I was not able to see “brilinta” the patient was on. In our clinic though, we do things the way described above. I would obtain consent and then take the patient to the operative room where I would inform the anesthetist, surgeon, circulating nurse and scrub nurse. This type of teamwork has saved my license and the patient too. After hearing the report, they used to ask me those two important questions in reverse, is there anything in the mouth and are there blood thinners for this patient who is receiving an epidural. For this purpose, I am still witnessing remotely this surgical procedure which is absurd. The patient answered “No” to both questions and the surgeon went to check “brilinta” in his medication list and was suddenly shocked.

Patient Safety Aspects

He called off the procedure and instead instituted a different calendar date to do this. What is amazing is that the surgeon has caught the patient on blood thinner during pre-op which means he isn’t going into surgery. This case was caused by interdisciplinary collaboration to ensure an adverse event wouldn’t occur. Collaborations are vital from a patient safety aspect because miscommunication or a lack thereof within the healthcare system could lead to harm to the patient.

Decreased collaboration can lead to both human and financial resources being underused or misallocated. With the increasing complexity in the overall health care of a patient, the collaboration among various health care professionals is critical for positive patient outcomes and controlled financial spending. If there’s a lack of sufficient collaboration, as I’ve indicated in my experiences, patients would be harmed, and as a result, there would arise uncontrolled spending on human as well as financial resources. The patient could have suffered and inadequate surgical resources would have been wasted, raising clinic expenditures. On the other hand, if there is such collaboration, sufficient communication could avert such events and save money. This is even so, as a nurse’s professional collaboration with other health practitioners such as midwifes, and physicians aids in better service delivery as well as the 2021 publication of Nursing Open Research which captures, “Professional collaboration in nursing.”

Identify the best-practice leadership strategies from the literature that would improve an interdisciplinary team’s ability to achieve its goals

The primary purpose for an interdisciplinary team is to ensure that high quality patient care is administered, achieve a satisfactory outcome, and meet the expectations of the patients. Along with that, interdisciplinary teams would want to enhance the productivity of their healthcare setting. For an interdisciplinary team to be effective, the team leader must strive to utilize the best practice leadership approach. This type of leadership is devoid of the past and concentrates on what is ‘now’ with a high degree of openness and receptiveness. In the words of the author Cope & Murray, this type of leadership ensures self-awareness, self-regulation, social awareness, and relational efficacy, which means these leaders are conflict competent can undertake collaborative democratic and affiliative approaches to problem-solving. Such leadership can help the interdisciplinary team deliver quality and timely patient care. There needs to be an environment of multiple suggestions and opinions from other professionals in order to have effective collaboration. This type of leadership style is most effective in the case of participative leadership to enhance patient care.

Identify best-practice interdisciplinary collaboration strategies to help a team to achieve its goals and work together more effectively

NURS fpx4010 Assessment 1 Collaboration and Leadership Reflection Video do not happen organically. There are tactics that help teams integrate and improve performance. One tactic is teaching; simulation-based training is an example of how educational interventions can be taught. Teaching patient safety can be accomplished by conducting patient safety training. This training combines hands-on simulation and participation in techniques aimed at minimizing errors. BioMed Central reports, “Team-Based Learning (TBL) is an evidence-based, multi-stage instructional design model that requires learners to work together during lessons at some point.” This method of teaching ensures that members of the group work together to accomplish meaningful tasks.

Conclusion

in conclusion of nt management of human and financial resources, supported by evidence from the literature Looking back on my experience, what pleases me is knowing that I have not harmed anyone and have learned from the case. I have learned a great deal in regard to self-improvement in life. I was relieved that there was a good interdisciplinary team that I could work with. Without their cooperation, many ill effects could happen at any point in the perioperative period. In this reflection, I have learned that teamwork is invaluable, and so is leading within a health organization.
