Nurse burnout is an issue that impacts nurses, patients, and healthcare institutions throughout the country (Jun et al., 2021). Burnout is caused by excessive workload, patient acuity, staff inadequacy, and the psychological costs of treating the critically ill patients. This assignment explains the impact of nurse burnout on our staff and patients. It also analyses the strategies used by other organizations to combat burnout and how they apply to our organization. By defining and solving this problem, we can have better patient care, a better work environment, and retention of nurses.

Impact of Nurse Burnout in Our Organization

Our workplace has severe nurse burnout. It has been revealed to me through observing colleagues and undergoing burnout that it has adverse effects on nurses and patient care. Increased stress has resulted in mental health challenges, absenteeism, and poor performance in the workplace. When facing the need to meet patient demands with minimal staff and resources, burnout is usually inevitable. Patient care is greatly impacted by burnout. Burnt-out nurses are disengaged and make mistakes, putting patient safety at risk and undermining the healthcare system’s confidence. The burnout-associated high turnover rate burns out our experienced nurse workforce, placing pressure on the rest and extending stress and burnout.

The rate of nurse absenteeism has gone up to 7% in our company. This is a 40% rise, above the 5.2% national average. The turnover of nurses has also risen to 18% compared to 12%. This triples the turnover of nurses in three years. Other reasons that are presented in exit interviews include fatigue. Nurses’ morale and work satisfaction have decreased, according to employee engagement surveys. There is a great reported stress compared with the past years. Nurses do not feel valued and are left behind.

The article is entitled “The effects of stress-coping strategies and group cognitive-behavioral therapy on nurse burnout, where the authors discuss the role of stress-coping strategies and CBT in preventing burnout in nurses (Bagheri et al., 2019). The results indicate that the treatments can assist nurses in coping with stress and developing resilience, which can alleviate burnout. The second article, Nurse Faculty Burnout and Strategies to Avoid It, speaks about nursing faculty burnout but offers clinically practical recommendations (Thomas et al., 2019). It stresses work-life balance, career advancement, and an encouraging workplace. These approaches deal with the reasons for burnout in medical professionals.

Organizations Addressing Burnout

The extent of nursing burnout is not overlooked by many healthcare institutions that are seeking solutions. Hospitals are educating nurses’ coping skills via awareness and stress-reduction programmes (Wexler and Schellinger, 2022). In order to increase work-life balance and hire nurses, some companies are trying flexible scheduling. Teamwork and support at the workplace are also encouraged through leadership conferences and collaborative activities (Greco et al., 2022). Nurses are also connected to supportive peers via peer support programs. Mental health resources have also been invested in institutions to assist burnout nurses to do so confidentially.

Strategies and Potential Impact on the Organization

We discussed numerous nurse burnout prevention measures that could positively or negatively impact our organization. One of them is Stress-Coping Strategies and Group CBT (Bagheri et al., 2019). Stress management and group CBT training could be beneficial to nurses. Mindfulness meditation and deep breathing can help create resilience and decrease burnout through real-time stress management. The favorable outcome is that once the stress management methods and group CBT are used, nurses can report a decrease in burnout and job satisfaction.

As an illustration, a nurse who has a large number of patients may engage in mindfulness meditation sessions during his or her breaks, which will result in the enhancement of mental health and resilience. The disadvantage of this strategy will be that the initial costs of developing the programs and training the facilitators can cause a burden to the organization (Raina Ghanshaw Bangani et al., 2021). As an illustration, it might cost the organization financial resources to invest in mindfulness training sessions and the employment of competent facilitators instead of other areas of need in the organization.

A Supportive Work Environment is another approach. The strategy enhances job satisfaction among nurses, thereby promoting communication, recognition, and cooperation. The beneficial effect of such an approach is that it may facilitate teamwork and job satisfaction by providing a positive working environment where nurses feel respected and listened to. For example, nurses may feel empowered to discuss the workload allocation concerns in the team meetings and find constructive ways to enhance work. This strategy’s negative impact is that it needs a cultural transition that may be resisted by current leadership styles. To illustrate, promoting open dialogue and involvement of employees can be a challenge to learn and embrace when managers are accustomed to a top-down approach.

The other methods are Work-Life Balance and Professional Development. The emotional and physical well-being of nurses can be improved with on-site daycare, flexibility, and paid time off. The professional growth through conferences, workshops, and education positively influences the nursing career growth, self-esteem, and devotion. Involving and satisfying the employees reduces burnout and turnover.

As an illustration, a nurse with young children can have flexible working hours to schedule daycare, which enhances well-being. This strategy’s negative impact is that it may need financial modifications. Flexible working hours require innovative employees, and daycare facilities are costly in the workplace. As an illustration, child care center construction and operation expenses, such as on-site child care, might require expenditure and ongoing operation at a high cost to the organization, which may impact its budgetary allocation and financial sustainability.

Conclusion

To sum up, nurse burnout is a rather disheartening issue that is being experienced in our organization. I am convinced that the levels of nurse support can be improved with the help of recognising its importance, examining the strategies in other organisations, and being able to use the evidence-based practices. All this will contribute to the quality of the patients, solve the turnover issue, and make healthcare more viable. This crucial issue can be dealt with on the collective level, and, safeguarding our employees, we will strengthen the health care system.
